Guess this should have been obvious to anyone following closely but it only dawned on me this week that while you can change your Mastodon server and take all your followers with you but you cannot take your posts. This to me is a fatal flaw in the fediverse and belies the whole ‘open’ narrative pushed by the proponents.

All systems are optimized for specific things at the expense of others. In most cases that is a good balance. However, if the cost of the fediverse is data loss then it seems optimized for the wrong thing.
