We went to the Jagjit Singh concert with Anurag's office friends(Richa & Manish), who got us the tickets.
The concert was supposed to start at 6pm. we were well in time, well just about. Anurag and I forgot to bring the tickets for the show! :)) It was pretty silly come to think about it. Also, to get out of the parking lot to go home and get the tickets would have taken more than an hour and half. But then Anurag's bright idea worked out and Sheru brought us the tickets and we were able to get in. Thanks Sheru, we owe you a lot of baby sitting sessions!
We didn't miss much, only about 2 songs. The concert hadn't begun till about 6:40pm.
So finally we are seated and were trying to watch the show (Too many people walking, standing in the way looking for the seats..)
The theater was very old and the sound system seemed older.
Jagit played few traditional gazals. There was a lot of tuning after each and every song, some how the sound system expert just didn't get what Jagjit Singh was trying to tell him. Just before half time there was a small ceremony of giving flowers/gifts from Jagjit S. to the Sponsors and vice versa. And after the half time, it became a variety show! He sang a lot of movie songs and asked the crowd to sing along with him, and then a long streak of punjabi songs, on which half of the crown came to the front and started dancing (Good for them, at least they seemed to enjoy the show!).
Oh yes, Jagjit singh also showcased his new book during half time and showed off his picture (in the book) when he was a surdarji :)
So all in all it was an experience, we now have bragging rights to have seen his show in US after the wonderful show we saw of his in DC about 12 years ago!
