Why should we trust Apple with our data?

iTunes and Apple Music, on a good day, only wipe out my song ratings and on a bad day, destroy most of my library. Photos update lost not only a lot of loved iPhoto features (flagging for one, searching within albums for another, simply dragging a photo to another app) but also destroyed all smart albums and most projects (books, calendars and cards). Time Machine, a backup software, routinely loses all track of backups. The latest update of iMovie had no recollection of all movies I’ve previously uploaded from my phone. Photostream does not copy live Photos. iCloud routinely loses documents. Contacts rarely sync across devices. Documents written in earlier version of Pages would not open in a newer version. Messages often enough does not send me notifications or entire messages. Aperture was discontinued. iBooks routinely loses my position in a book. And the Finder, for years, has struggled remembering any settings.

I cannot think of a single Apple app where I haven’t lost some semblance of my data. Guess they get a pass because they are merely incompetent and not ill-intentioned.
