Flatiron Building is believed to be one of the most photographed buildings in the world. Built in 1902, it's rise coincided with that of the new pop art of photography. It is a gorgeous building. A bit short by today's architectural standards, it is still impressively unique looking. I do wish they'd spend some money and add some decorative night lights. It kind of starts to look dull as the night falls. The surrounding area though has improved a lot in the last decade that I've been observing it. It is now quite a happening place specially in the start-up tech sector. A glut of expensive real estate now surrounds it and the Madison Sq. Park and its neighbors are all a treat to watch. If you happen to be in New York City, don't miss a trip to the Flatiron District.
Oh, and there is an embarrassing story about the pronunciation of its name. The name Flatiron comes from its shape that looks like the base of an old clothing iron. For years - I called it 'flati-ron' - until I heard someone call it 'flat-iron'.
