Sanibel is a strange little island just off Florida's west coast. It is known for its shell-filled beaches, wildlife and one of the nation's largest Mangrove forest reserve. It is definitely worth a visit for a couple of days but perhaps not a lot more.
Beaches are overstocked with shells. They can be hard to enjoy unless you are specifically looking for shells.
The Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is a fantastic place to visit. It is one of the national's largest Mangrove forests. Mangroves are fascinating, self-propagating trees. The tree grow pods or seeds that fall and plant themselves in the wet coastal soil leading to a forward moving forest that keeps the coastal soil packed.
