My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Nia Vardalos writes and stars in this funny, predictable fare about a Greek woman who falls in love with an American Hunk in the suburbs of Chicago. The problem is of course that she had a weird family but as, Ian (John Corbett) says -- "Who doesn't?"

This film derives from a list of other movies and has some hilarious moments. Specially worth noting is Michael Constantine who plays Nia's troubled father.

The asphyxiatingly intrusive culture portrayed in the movie is not necessarily funny for those who live through it. From the outside it makes a funny story indeed.

This 'Chick Flick' has of course set some sort of box office record. It was made for about 5 million and has already earned close to 200 million dollars. This makes Titanic look like a real loser. The DVD and pay-per-view are going to earn millions as well.

The problem with the movie is that it has a well known theme and the plot is really very thin. This puts all the responsibility of carrying the film on the characters. They do an admirable job and keep the film reasonably entertaining.
