Heretic (2024)
Heretic may be one of Hugh Grant’s best performances in a long time. His recent turn to villainy really suits him. In Heretic, he plays a man with strong opinions about religion, determined to make two young missionaries acknowledge his worldview.
The narrative builds slowly, with sharp dialogue and a steady rise in tension. Director and writer Scott Beck leans into horror tropes—liberally, unapologetically—and delivers a film that’s genuinely entertaining. The plot is tight, and while the ending feels like an afterthought, that’s not really the point.
The point is the mood. The conversation. That rare, slow-burn intensity you hardly find in films anymore. That’s what makes Heretic so fun!
