Broadway production of A Doll’s House starring Jessica Chastain got me interested in this novel by Henrik Ibsen published in 1879. I am not a fan of celebrity showpiece shows so I wasn’t going to go see it in the theatre but reading the play seemed natural specially because I had read Ibsen’s other famous play, Rosmersholm, just a couple years ago.
This is a really quick read and for 1879 quite brilliantly ahead of its time featuring a shocking (for its time anyway) decision by the heroin. Everyone should read it.
